Here is the report of the Iraq Commission as presented by Channel 4
There are no
surprises. I think this reflects the views the UK Government has held
for some time. However the constitution of the panel is noteworthy and
the detail in the proposals are very important. I cannot imagine any
elaboration that would contradict the findings here even if it were
able to improve on them.
It does not promise an easy way forward and for it to work all the
major elements have to be put in place so as to synchronise. For
example the withdrawal of UK troops will depend on Iran cooperating in
the suggested international treaty concerning the region.
